November 27th Meeting Speakers

Our November meeting will be held on the Tuesday, November 27th, at 7:00 pm at the New Braunfels Public Library.  Our speakers for the evening will be Chase Smith and Robby Hensley. Their presentation will cover a low-budget trip to Baja, Mexico to target Roosterfish in the surf.

A quote from Michael Aldridge, Education Chair for Texas Council FFI and Outings Director, Hill Country Fly Fishers, from an email response to my request for him to speak (He was busy):

“There are a couple of young, incredible fly anglers here with the Hill Country Fly Fishers club that might be able to help with a presentation if you’re still looking for a speaker on November 27.  They are Chase Smith and Robert Hensley.  The second to last Drake Magazine mentions them both as winners of the last two “Escarpment” carp tournaments.  Chase ties some of the best articulated flies, “game changers,” I’ve ever seen! Both are wonderful young men who’ve done more with a fly rod in one year than most have in a lifetime!  From the Texas Hill Country to CO/NM to Baja.”

Hope to see you all there!!

NBFF FLY TYING NIGHT

We have to say that the new facilities at the American Legion Hall in New Braunfels worked perfectly for fly tying.  Tables and chairs were available and plenty of room for setting up vises and tools.  There were 5 Tyers that showed up for this first session and it went great.  The next session will be in December on the second Tuesday of the month.  Please feel free to join the group for tying and fish stories.  Those members present were, Jeff O’bara, Gary Nyland, Phil Lambrecht, Carl Druebert and Mike Engelhardt

We want to thank the Walton F Hoffman Memorial Post 410 for their support in providing us with the room for our meetings, and encourage any one eligible to join the Post to join.

2018 HOLDOVER TOURNAMENT COVERAGE

The 2018 Holdover Tournament is now over and the results are in.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day on the Guadalupe River.  Flows were high, but boats only got fishers wet a few times going over Horseshoe Falls and other rapids.  No waders were allowed to sign up due to the flows.  However, the results will answer the questions of Holdover numbers for Nov 3 2018

You need to solve this riddle to determine how many fish were caught in the Holdover:::  The second place boat got ½ and many fish as the first place boat.  The third place boat got 1/4 as many fish and the second place boat. The fourth place boat got ⅛ as many fish as the third  place boat.

How many fish did each boat get?????????????????  Answer at the bottom of the Pictures.

We all got SKUNKED, but had a great time in the beautiful weather!   We held a drawing for the prizes. Hope to see you all next year when the water is slower and more fishable.  2017 was a great year and we hope next year, 2019 is as good as or better than 2017.
