Summer is here, and we are targeting the warm water species with good results in Texas. Trout fishing in Colorado has been amazing. A good portion of Colorado is experiencing low water conditions, but the lower Gunnison river will have plenty of water through the summer. RIVER CONDITIONS
The water temperatures on the Guadalupe are too warm to target trout. The flows on the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake are 75 CFS. This is the time to enjoy all the warm water species the Texas Hill Country has to offer. Many great fishing stories of bass biting on poppers and streamers. The Canyon Lake level is a few feet low and flows could reduce more if rainfall doesn’t increase. It’s very important to keep a watch on the river flows. Wading can become dangerous if you are on the river when the dam suddenly increases its flow. Flows on the lower Gunnison river in Colorado are above 600 CFS, and should remain that way through the summer. This means plenty of cold water with great hatches. Hoppers, Caddis, and Stone Fly nymphs are a few of the long list of flies currently working. The upper Gunnison river is also fishing well with great Caddis hatches. There are some great trout opportunities on the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers as well.

FLY SHOP and RIVER ACCESS
The Action Angler fly shop and river access will be closed to the public until mid October as we turn our focus to guiding in Colorado. Appointments to purchase items from the fly shop during this time can be made by email, or purchases can be made through or website at any time of the year. Guided fly fishing trips and lessons with our numerous qualified guides are also available by email.

I’d like to fill you in on the most recent news in the Texas Hill Country and west/central Colorado.

NEWS AND UPDATES
1. Action Angler is a booking agent and guide for 1, 2, and 3 day float trips on the Gunnison River through the Gunnison Gorge and lower Gunnison River. This allows us to hold preferred dates for our clients. The Gunnison Gorge is thought of by many as a Top 20 Destination To See Before You Die, and also referred to as a mini-Grand Canyon. The lower Gunnison River is an easier-paced section, with day trips starting at $600. Please contact us for details.
2. If you are planning to be in the Aspen or Glenwood Springs areas in the summertime or early fall, call Aspen Fly Fishing and/or Crystal Fly Shop to book trips. The Covid-19 Pandemic seems to have affected almost everybody we know. Our Fredericksburg Fly Fishing Club is no exception.

Our previous meeting room at the EMS Building has been closed to outside groups such as the Fly Fishing Club.  So, Club Officials were forced to find a new meeting location ASAP.

It was good fortune that our location search quickly landed the centrally located easy-access Holiday Inn Express in Fredericksburg.

Greetings Fellow Fly Fishers, We hope this email finds you healthy and ready to hit the water!  The fishing on Brushy Creek has been fantastic and it will just keep getting better as the weather warms.  Give the shop a call if you need the latest fishing report before you head out! As you know, Texas is beginning to re-open in a limited fashion and we are doing the same at Living Waters.  So without further ado, here are a few announcements that we want to bring to your attention: FLY SHOP ANNOUNCEMENTS Beginning Monday, May 4th we will re-open our fly shop doors to the public in a limited fashion. Store hours will be 10 A.M. – 4 P.M., Monday – Saturday. We will be allowing a maximum of 10 customers in the store at one time. Frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned/disinfected regularly throughout the day. The fly shop will be deep cleaned on a daily basis. Curbside pickup and mail orders will still continue. The safety of our staff and customers is of great importance to us.  That being said, please DO NOT visit the shop if you are exhibiting any symptoms of illness or allergies.  Instead, we can process your order over the phone and mail it to you. Please continue to observe social distancing when visiting the fly shop. GUIDE SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS All guide trips, including float trips, will be resuming. Temporarily, Full Day trips will NOT INCLUDE lunch and all guests will be responsible for packing their own lunch for their own safety.  A cooler will be available with ice and drinks. All boats will be cleaned and disinfected regularly for the safety of our clients. Social distancing will be practiced on all trips. EVENT ANNOUNCEMENTS All in-store events for the month of May have been postponed/canceled. Fly Tying Nights will continue to be video-based through the month of May.  To view the videos, visit www.vimeo.com/lwff Saturday events will all be hosted on Instagram and Facebook for the month of May. Our Brushy Creek Slam will end on May 15th so catch some fish and earn discounts at Living Waters! Living Waters Fly Fishing is a Trout Unlimited Gold Level Business and Chris will be on a live interview with TU’s Business Director, Walt Gasson, on Instagram live this Friday, May 1st at 3PM CST.  Join in to hear Walt and Chris discuss everything from native trout to fly shop life. Next weekend’s (May 9th, @ 10 AM) Instagram and Facebook live event will be a Whiting Hackle Tutorial with Chris Johnson.  Learn the intricacies of each hackle type and their uses at the vise. We will also debut an exclusive product from Whiting Farms that will be available after the class!  This will be one you don’t want to miss!
