Action Angler, your local shop right on the river

This year marks the 20th season we’ve been in business. It’s been a long, and bumpy road at times. It definitely could not have happened without the support of our community. Action Anglers November Fly Fishing Report

November Fly Fishing Report

Fall is here, and the bass bite is on! The changing seasons will increase a variety of bug hatches. It won’t be long before the first trout stocking on the Guadalupe river. Some cooler temps and cloud cover should make for some great streamer fishing. November is a great time to book a trip to experience some epic fly fishing. Check out http://actionangler.net/ to book a trip, buy some gear or gift certificate, or get up to speed on the latest river info.

RIVER CONDITIONS

The flows on the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake are 100 CFS. We are recommending half day float trips for trout because of the lack of water. A full day float trip is great for bass. This is the time to enjoy all the warm water species the Texas Hill Country has to offer. Many great fishing stories of bass biting on poppers and streamers. The Canyon Lake level is finally full. Flows below the dam could change at any time. It’s very important to keep a watch on the river flows. Wading can become dangerous if you are on the river when the dam suddenly increases its flow. We recommend visiting http://www.grtu.org/flow/ to stay informed of the lake level and dam release. Make sure to book a trip soon to secure your date.

FLY SHOP and RIVER ACCESS

The Action Angler fly shop and river access has now reopened. Masks will be required to enter the fly shop, and the number of customers are limited to 4 at a time. The door to the shop will likely be locked in order to control the traffic inside the shop. Purchases can be made through our website at any time of the year.

We’ve added a new boat to the fleet that provides more room and comfort for our bass and trout trips. Check out the photos on Facebook or Instagram of our new Boulder Boatworks drift boat. Check out http://actionangler.net/ to book a trip, buy some gear or gift certificate, or get up to speed on the latest river info. (All of our guides have been vaccinated for COVID-19)

Check out our upcoming classes and help jump start friends or family’s fly fishing fun. (News & Updates – read more..)

I’d like to fill you in on the most recent news in the Texas Hill Country and west/central Colorado.

October Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting

Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting Summary

10/27/2021 – New Braunfels Library

Dan Cone called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Gary Nyland informed the group that he and Jeff would like to pass the baton to someone else to head up the fly tying group.  They cited the lack of participation and not having a good location for fly tying and the distance they had to travel.  It was decided that the group would reassess after the 1st of the year.

Pat McQuinn said we have 31 current members.

Ron recapped the club trip to the Blanco River.  Eight members fished and many sunfish were caught.  All agreed the bbq at Old 300 BBQ was great.

The membership approved of having a joint November/December meeting on December 8th if possible.  The backup date is December 1st.  Brien will try to reserve the library for those dates and Ron will try to arrange for a speaker.

A motion was made and seconded to keep the same group of officers until our normal date for elections in the spring.  The motion carried.

The Holdover Tournament will be held November 6th.  Donations will be $200 to float and $75 to wade.  Interested members are to contact Chris Jackson to sign up.

A motion was made and seconded to provide the GRTU Youth Camp participants with a gift bag of fly fishing equipment.  A $500 – $750 limit was placed on the expense.   The committee consists of John Schlombohm, Chris Jackson and Ron DeMeyer to determine the content of the bags.  The group will coordinate with Chris Long, Gruene Outfitters who are also giving items, to ensure no duplicates.  The motion carried.

Chris Long, Gruene Outfitters, invited the members to attend a presentation by Pat Dorsey on November 12th, 4 – 6 pm.

Dan Cone reviewed the 2021 – 2022 Trout season.

Dan reviewed the good work done by the Reel Recovery organization and took a straw poll of members who would be willing to spend a day as a fishing buddy.  A number of members volunteered. Dan will pursue them spending a day on the Guadalupe with us.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
