Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting

Summarized Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting

12/08/2021 – New Braunfels Public Library

Dan Cone called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Pat McQuinn said we have 32 current members.

Ron reminded the members of the trip to the Llano River to fish for state stocked fish on December 9th.

Ron reviewed the progress made on the GRTU Youth Camp participant’s bag of fly fishing equipment.  John Schlobohm, Chris Jackson and Ron selected fly boxes, zingers, nippers and forceps and Chris ordered these and they have been delivered.  The zingers and fly boxes were ordered with the NBFF logo.  Chris has asked Umpqua to donate the leaders and tippet.  The cloth bags have been ordered.  Jeff O’Bara suggested Ron ask the members for fly donations, either through cleaning out their boxes or tying, to put in the boxes.  The team thought that since the majority of these young people will typically be fishing non-trout waters that woolly buggers and poppers should be included in the mix.

Ron reported that the club’s application for a booth at 2022 GRTU Troutfest has been sent and the Troutfest committee has acknowledged its receipt.

Our speaker for the evening was Chris Johnson, Living Waters Fly Fishing.  His subject was “Fly Fishing the Guadalupe River”.  Chris’ presentation covered not only trout fishing but all the other wildlife and beauty one sees on the river while fishing.  He is knowledgeable and entertaining.  Chris also donated $175 worth of tippet, leaders and forceps to the club.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

2021 Holdover Tournament

The 2021 Holdover Tournament was held November 6th on a beautiful fall day.  Six participants floated with guides and four participants were self-guided.  John LaFreniere won 1st place, John Schlombohm 2nd and Ed Finger 3rd.

Data on fish, types size and qty. along with approximate locations, is collected and shared with TPWD.

The New Braunfels Fly Fishers would like to thank the folks who provided the prizes:  Living Waters Fly Fishing, Gruene Outfitters, Umqua, and Action Angler Fly Shop.  Also, a big thank-you to the guides who donated their time and boats:  Chris Jackson, Action Angler; Dan Cone, Castell Guide Service; and Jeff Davis.

It was a beautiful day to be fishing on the Guadalupe River. A lot of fun and for a good cause and conservation.  Join us next year on November 5, 2022.

Winners had a hard time picking their prizes, there was too much to chose from, the gift certificates were the most popular, donated by Action Angler, Living Waters and Gruene Outfitters. Another big thank you to the guides that provided time and boats.

Keep an eye out next year, this is always a fun way to start the season off.
