Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting

04/26/2023 – New Braunfels Public Library

Dan Cone called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm at the New Braunfels Public Library.

Pat McQuinn reported that the club lost one member bringing our membership to 41.

Gary Nyland reported that the next fly tying meeting would be on May 4th and the group would be tying either a Girdle Bug or Pat’s Rubber Legs.

Phil Lambrecht said he was looking for a home to store the casting equipment as he had no room at his house.  John Wortham volunteered to store the equipment. Ron said that the Introduction to Fly Fishing class broke even with seven attendees.

Ron DeMeyer stated the Brien and he would finalize our outing to the Blanco River and would schedule the outing sometime in May.

Ron gave a short review of the fish feeding project to date.  Pat McQuinn said that the fish feeding group would meet on April 27^th to set the schedule for May and possibly June.

Dan reminded the members that we will have the board election in May.

Brien brought up that FFI requires us to review our by-laws and ensure that we follow the template they provide to ensure our by-laws include required sections. There was no time limit given.  Dan will do the review and report the results.

Logo hats were discussed.  Ron said that he had contacted “welogoanything” and they said that our logo had too many colors for an embroidery but they could do a patch or they could simplify our logo with fewer colors and possibly do the embroidery.  They will modify our logo and send to Ron for review.

Patrick Ireland,  District Supervisor, Inland Fisheries, TPWD was our speaker.  Patrick explained the breadth of the role they play in local fisheries.

Dan adjourned the meeting at 7:45 pm.

We meet at the New Braunfels Public Library at 6:00 pm on April 26^th.   6:00 PM IS A NEW TIME FOR OUR MEETING.

Our speakers for the evening are Patrick Ireland, District Supervisor, Inland Fisheries, TPWD  and his associate Austin Orr who is also an FFI Certified Casting Instructor.

10 years ago, April 17, this was the first meeting to get the club started. Must be doing ok to keep things going this long.

Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting

02/22/2023 – New Braunfels Public Library

Dan Cone called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the New Braunfels Public Library.

Brien said that once the Westside library Annex opened our meetings would not be able to be held until 9:00 pm because of limited staff.  A discussion ensued and the members voted to change our hours to 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm for our monthly meetings.

Pat McQuinn reported that 66 people had signed up at Troutfest to receive more information about our club.  Ron DeMeyer stated that 26 people had signed up for the “Introduction to Fly Fishing” class scheduled for April 15^th.  In general, Troutfest was a great success for GRTU and NBFF.

Gary Nyland reported that 8 – 10 people have been attending fly tying meetings.  The next meeting is scheduled for March 2^nd and the fly they will tie is a Soft Hackle.

Pat McQuinn said that we had 42 members and 1 pending.

Phil Lambrecht and Ron will be planning the “Introduction to Fly Fishing” class in the coming weeks and Ron alerted the members that we would need volunteers to help with class.  A deep knowledge of fly fishing will not be needed as it is an introductory class.

Ron DeMeyer said that he would plan a trip on the Guadalupe in the near future.

Ed Sweet and Morgan Ferry continue to work together, sharing information to make our website and social media more attractive.

Dan brought up the need for volunteers at the Word Fun Fish at Canyon Park from 10 am – 4 pm on February 25^th.  The need is greatest from 1:30 – 4 pm.  Those who are interested should contact Bill Marshall, President of GRTU.

Jerry Horton has been looking into the possibility of the club acquiring logo hats and/or shirts.  He said that T-shirts could be sourced from River City, New Braunfels and hats from Richardson Hats that he will contact soon.  The group thought that hats would be preferable.

Jude Cole was our guest speaker.  Jud owns “Hell ‘N Back” Outfitters locally.  His subject was “Bugs of the Guadalupe”.  Jud gave a presentation that was easy to understand while being extremely informative.
