NBFF at Troutfest TX 2025

NBFF AT TROUTFEST  TX 2025

We put up our canopy for our booth on a cold Thursday, February 20th, getting a great spot at L&L Campground for the festivities.  We returned on Saturday morning to a canopy covered in ice and a very cold day.  The rest of Saturday remained cold and dreary but turnout for Troutfest was exceptional and we entertained a lot of visitors with information about our club.  Our members tried to stay warm with both wood and propane fires.

Our raffle winner on Saturday was Gene Battaglia from Laurel Hills, Florida.  Gene won an Echo Ion reel and had traveled from Florida just to attend Troutfest.  He said he was looking forward to catching a lot of fish on the reel.

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day with a lot of visitors enjoying Troutfest TX 2025 and the great weather.  Once again, we had a lot of visitors to our booth and hopefully the club will gain some new members.

Our raffle winner for Sunday was a young lady from Alaska.  She won a fly box with 20 flies that were proven patterns for the Guadalupe River.

December 2024 Fly Fishing Report

December 2024 Fly Fishing Report

To all who’ve recently subscribed to our newsletter: Thank you for joining!

Winter is here! The temperatures have dropped and it’s a great time to get outdoors.

It’s a good time to reserve your dates for winter and spring in Texas. We’ll be targeting trout through April, and bass March through May. Check out http://actionangler.net/ to book a trip, buy some gear or gift certificate, or get up to speed on the latest river info.

RIVER CONDITIONS

The water temperatures on the Guadalupe are in the 60s. The flows on the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake are 65 CFS. There have been 4 trout stockings so far, and more on the way. Trout sizes stocked this season are anywhere from 8 inches to 27 inches. The GRTU feeding program has helped a good number of trout to survive the summer, and the best way to know if you have a holdover is by the color and fin development. The Canyon Lake level is 20 feet low and flows could reduce more if rainfall doesn’t increase. We recommend visiting http://www.grtu.org/flow/ to stay informed of the lake level and dam release. The trout have been biting on various worm, egg, nymphs, and emerger patterns. Some streamers have also been successful.

Please contact us if you want to experience some great Colorado or Hill Country fly fishing. Guided trips and gift certificates can be purchased online at http://actionangler.net/ by clicking the “BOOK NOW” button.

FLY SHOP and RIVER ACCESS

The Action Angler fly shop and river access is open 7 days a week. Purchases can be made through our website at any time of the year. We have added 2 more ways to pay for river access. Look for the orange sign at the trail head with payment options through Zelle, and Venmo.

I’d like to fill you in on the most recent news in the Texas Hill Country and west/central Colorado.
