Next Fly Tying Night June 1st

Our next NBFF Fly Tying session will be held this coming Thursday (June 1st), starting at 6;00pm at the Westside Community Center (2932 South Interstate 35 Frontage Road, New Braunfels).  This month we will try something a little different and be tying the “Clouser”, a good all-around fly, especially for catching some of the summer warm water fish (bass, brim, etc.)  Come on out and join us, tie a few for yourself and a few for the Club meeting raffle.  If you are new, the club will supply the needed tying materials and we have several sets of tying tools available for your use.  You are also welcome to bring your own.
Attached is a picture of Pat McQuinn demonstrating the tying of our last month’s fly, “Pat’s Rubber Legs”.
Hope to see you there,
Gary and Jeff

Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting

05/24/2023 – New Braunfels Public Library

Chris Jackson called the meeting to order at 6:10 pm at the New Braunfels Public Library.

We had a Fly Raffle.

Pat McQuinn reported that membership was now 42.

Gary Nyland reported that the fly tying group had seven members for the April meeting and they tied Girdle Bugs and Pat’s Rubber Legs.  The next meeting is scheduled for June 1st and they will be tying Clousers.

Ed Sweet said that we now have 1816 followers on Facebook.

Ron DeMeyer stated that the Blanco River trip is scheduled for June 1st and details will follow via email.  Also, Living Water Fly Shop is hosting a presentation by Chris Johnson and the subject is fishing Southern Colorado.  He will outline destinations, trip planning, fly selection and what to pack.

Ron and Pat McQuinn gave a short review of the fish feeding project to date.

The NBFF board election was held.  Ron nominated Pat McQuinn for Secretary, the motion was seconded. The President, Dan Cone; Vice President, Chris Jackson; and Treasurer, Brien George; agreed to another term.  There were no other nominations from the floor and the slate of candidates were voted unanimously for another term.

Ron said the Jerry Horton and he had picked two hats for samples to be embroidered.  Welogoanything had provided a choice of five possible hats that they thought went well with our logo colors.  They will embroidery will be done this week and the samples sent to Ron who will bring them to the June meeting for membership approval.

Chris Jackson had received, from an unknown gentleman, a number of bamboo rods, a couple of creels and some auto return reels.  Chris donated them to the club.  Martin Stults, our resident expert, spent a number of days determining make and origin of the rods.  The oldest is from the very early 1900’s and the remainder are from the 40’s and 50’s.  All of the rods have some damage and the reels appear to be in pretty good shape.  We plan on having a silent auction during our June meeting so bring your wallet and decorate your man cave or refurbish the antique gear.

Our speaker was Chris Jackson, Action Angler Fly Shop, and he gave us a great presentation on fly fishing the Black Canyon with Black Canyon Anglers.

Chris adjourned the meeting at 7:50 pm.

If you missed the meeting you missed out on some good stuff. The presentation on Black Canyon Anglers was extremely informative with a lot of pictures where to fish, times to fish, what bugs prevailed at those times. The location looks wonderful to say the least. If you want a really awesome guided trip a beautiful location, this would be it. See the link below for more information.
