TROUTFEST CLUB PRESENCE

Thanks to the volunteers that came out to support our Troutfest display.  It was really great and in our opinion, one of the best for an individual club.  Lots of visitors and at least 20 potential new members signed up for additional information.  Our fly raffle was also a great success.  See pictures below for Proof!!

GREAT JAN MEETING

We had 26 fishermen show up at the meeting last night to see Dan Cone give a presentation on where and how to fish the Guadalupe river at high flow(400-600fps).  In addition to the “where to fish”, Dan showed us how to rig our line and leader for this type of fishing.  He showed us a 3 fly setup that used 91/2ft leader( mono) and 3 and 4 x (floro)  tippet.  First fly heavy one(ie wooly booger etc.), second fly(egg or worm pattern) and point fly( small soft hackle or midge pattern). All in all it was a great meeting and we look forward to seeing all of you next month.

November 27th Meeting Speakers

Our November meeting will be held on the Tuesday, November 27th, at 7:00 pm at the New Braunfels Public Library.  Our speakers for the evening will be Chase Smith and Robby Hensley. Their presentation will cover a low-budget trip to Baja, Mexico to target Roosterfish in the surf.

A quote from Michael Aldridge, Education Chair for Texas Council FFI and Outings Director, Hill Country Fly Fishers, from an email response to my request for him to speak (He was busy):

“There are a couple of young, incredible fly anglers here with the Hill Country Fly Fishers club that might be able to help with a presentation if you’re still looking for a speaker on November 27.  They are Chase Smith and Robert Hensley.  The second to last Drake Magazine mentions them both as winners of the last two “Escarpment” carp tournaments.  Chase ties some of the best articulated flies, “game changers,” I’ve ever seen! Both are wonderful young men who’ve done more with a fly rod in one year than most have in a lifetime!  From the Texas Hill Country to CO/NM to Baja.”

Hope to see you all there!!
